Choosing a Safari Gate in Tipeshwar

Unlike many larger tiger reserves, Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is accessed through three safari gates, each leading into a distinct landscape. Visitors staying for two or more safaris often explore different gates to experience the sanctuary's varied habitats and wildlife.

Sunna Gate

Sunna is Tipeshwar's busiest and most established safari entrance. Most luxury, premium and ultra-premium stays, including Tipai Wildlife Luxuries and Sterling Tipeshwar, are located nearby. The gate permits the highest number of safari vehicles and is widely known for regular tiger sightings, making it a popular choice for first-time visitors.

Mathani Gate

Mathani is characterised by forests interspersed with agricultural fields and seasonal water bodies. The route is among the sanctuary's most scenic and is associated with the young male tiger Bakasur. Tourism infrastructure is gradually expanding, with a growing number of budget lodges and homestays serving the area.

Koduri Gate

Koduri is the sanctuary's most remote entrance. Dry deciduous forests, rocky outcrops and fewer safari vehicles define this landscape. It is home to the elusive PC female, one of Tipeshwar's resident tigers. A lodge is located near the gate, although the approach is less suitable for standard passenger vehicles. With the lowest vehicle quota, Koduri often has safari availability even when other gates are fully booked.

Each gate reflects a different aspect of Tipeshwar. Sunna combines established tourism infrastructure with frequent wildlife sightings, Mathani showcases a mosaic of forests and farmland, while Koduri offers a quieter experience in a rugged landscape. Visitors spending two or three nights can appreciate the sanctuary more fully by exploring more than one gate.
